22nd December 2018 Playstation 4 gets cross-play with Nintendo Switch and Xbox One

Sony has made the huge announcement that it will support cross-platform gaming for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch titles, meaning that for the first time all console players will be able to play against each other online.

‘We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update,’ said Sony Interactive Entertainment boss John Kodera, ‘and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution.’

The feature will initially be trialled as a beta, with the hugely popular Fortnite as the title chosen to spearhead the initiative.

‘We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation,’ states Kodera, ‘while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.’
