The UK government has announced the creation of a specialist court in London to hear cases relating to cybercrime. Hackers stole a total of £130bn from consumers in 2017, including £4.6bn from British internet users, according to a report from a leading security vendor in a ZDNet article.

More than 17 million citizens were hit by cybercrime in the past year with the most common generated through social engineering techniques. Whilst ransomware has seen a fall in usage, variation is up – a ransomware attack has been estimated to cost £111 on average. Losses are not just financial, each victim having to spend on average nearly two working days to deal with the issue.
