According to IDC’s quarterly worldwide mobile phone tracker, Huawei took second spot with a record high market share of 15.8 per cent for Q2 2018, the first quarter since Q2 2010 that Apple has not been number one or two smartphone company in terms of share. Samsung’s share was 20.9 per cent with Apple’s at 12.1 per cent.

Overall the number of units shipped (342 million) was down by 1.8 per cent on previous year. The combination of market saturation, increased smartphone penetration rates and climbing ASPs were factors in the decline.
