21st April 2020 Standalone VR headsets gaining popularity

Standalone VR headsets are quickly gaining popularity in the market. According to leading industry market research company SuperData, 49% of all VR devices sold globally in 2019 were standalone headsets. This was partly bolstered by the incredibly wellreceived Oculus Quest, released in May 2019. By removing the need for a PC, they offer a VR experience at a much lower overall price. Without the need for tethering, there is greater freedom of movement, as well as a portability previously only offered by the low-end headsets that connect to smartphones.

While PC VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift S (also released in May 2019) helped to support this market growth, it was standalone headsets that drove the estimated 26% growth, over the previous year.
